Hurricane Lester, the 12th named storm and 6th hurricane of the eastern Pacific hurricane season, is pushing west across the open Pacific Ocean.
This hurricane is no threat to any land areas at this time, but may end up making a run toward the Hawaiian Islands next weekend.
Here's the latest from the National Hurricane Center:
- Hurricane Lester was located more than 1,000 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, as of Sunday evening.
- Lester is moving west, and should continue doing so for the next five days.
- This new system is no threat to any land areas at this time.
- However, Lester may push in the general direction of the Hawaiian Islands by Labor Day weekend.
- It's far too soon to say if Lester will be a significant threat to Hawaii. The majority of tropical cyclones approaching Hawaii from the east weaken before arriving.
