A strong area of low pressure will move eastward over the lower Intermountain West and the southern Plains. This system will bring moderate to heavy rain and high elevation snow to the central Rockies. Winter storm warnings are in effect for southern Wyoming and Colorado. Rain and thunderstorms will also break out across the southern Rockies, the southern Plains, the central Plains, the middle Mississippi Valley and the lower Mississippi Valley. There will be chances of severe thunderstorms in eastern Texas, Oklahoma, southwest Arkansas and northwest Louisiana. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Heavy rain will bring threats of flash flooding to eastern Texas, eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, northwest Mississippi and western Tennessee.
A separate system will shift over the Mid-Atlantic. This system will usher light rain over the northern Mid-Atlantic on Friday. A cold frontal boundary stretching southwestward will produce showers and thunderstorms in Florida.
Meanwhile, a trough of low pressure will drift across the Northwest. Rain and high elevation snow will accompany this system, affecting the Pacific Northwest, the Great Basin and the upper Intermountain West. Most of California will stay clear of precipitation.
