Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday,January 27,2016

A cold front will slam into the West Coast on Wednesday, while a separate frontal system moves over the East Coast.

A Pacific cold front will move northeastward across the northwestern corner of the country. This frontal system will interact with a plume of moisture, which will lead to moderate to heavy rain over western Washington and western Oregon. Gusty winds and high elevation snow showers will also affect the Cascades and the northern Rockies. In addition, freezing rain will be possible over interior Washington. A ridge of high pressure will continue to build along the coast of California, keeping conditions dry from the Southwest to the lower Intermountain West. Temperatures will jump 5 to 10 degrees above normal across the Desert Southwest.

A separate cold front will extend from the Mid-Atlantic to the eastern Gulf Coast. A mixture of rain and snow will be possible across southeast Virginia, North Carolina, northwest South Carolina and northern Georgia. Rain and thunderstorms will develop across the remainder of the Southeast. Prolonged heavy rain could lead to flash flooding along the southern tier of Florida.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will transition across the Great Lakes and the Northeast. This system will usher a cold air mass over the northern tier of the country, as well as light to moderate snow showers. Snow accumulations will range between 3 to 6 inches from the upper Mississippi Valley to New England. Up to 12 inches of snow will be possible over northern Michigan and downwind of Lake Erie.
