Boston: Dog Days of Summer in Store for Much of Week

Typical hot and humid weather, known as the dog days of summer, are in store for the Boston area during much of this week.
Boston has hit 90 F during only two days so far this year. The 90-degree days were back-to-back on July 19 and 20. Three days in a row with temperatures reaching 90 F or higher define an official heat wave.

East Heat on High Much of this Week

While temperatures could reach 90 on one or two occasions through Saturday and the pattern may not be dubbed a heat wave locally, many areas of the East will have the hottest weather since the middle of July. Temperatures will climb well into the 80s through the weekend.

Humidity levels will come down Friday and into the weekend. As a result, the weather will be more bearable for those who must do manual labor, yet still warm enough for swimming.
The vast majority of the time through Sunday will be free of rain with Thursday bringing the greatest chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms.
At Boston's Logan International Airport, temperatures have averaged slightly below normal during July, but were well below average during June. Rainfall has been about 60 percent of average for July, but above average during June. Parts of New England remain abnormally dry or are in moderate drought.
Temperatures typically range from a morning low in the middle 60s to a high in the lower 80s during the end of July and at the start of August.
