An 8-year-old boy was bitten by a shark Wednesday in knee-deep water in Surf City, North Carolina.
The boy suffered only minor injuries to his leg in what was the fourth shallow water shark attack this month on the North Carolina coast.
Surf City's Town Manager Larry Bergman told the Associated Press that the town has increased police beach patrols but does not plan to warn visitors about the incident or tell swimmers to stay out of the water.

"It really comes down to a joint decision on public safety officials, including myself," Bergman told the AP, adding that he would have closed the beaches if there was a "big hazard" or "imminent danger."
On June 14, two shark attacks occurred in separate incidents roughly one hour apart near Oak Island, North Carolina.
Both victims required an arm amputation following the attacks.

Another attack occurred to a 12-year-old girl only days prior after a shark bit her boogie board near Ocean Isle Beach.
It was not immediately known why the recent attacks have occurred so close to the shoreline.
