After a cold start to the weekend in the Midwest, temperatures will begin to rebound, ahead of a storm system taking aim on the Great Lakes.
Spanning Friday to Sunday, temperatures will trend upward by about 20 degrees Fahrenheit over the northern and central Plains. Highs in Minneapolis and Fargo, North Dakota, will reach the 50s by Sunday afternoon and in the 60s in Omaha, Nebraska, and Kansas City, Missouri.

The warmup will be less robust on Saturday over the Great Lakes and part of the Ohio Valley, but it will kick into gear on Sunday. Temperatures from Saturday to Sunday will jump 10-15 degrees from St. Louis and Chicago to Detroit, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
A couple of very small patches of snow will form and dissipate from the northern Plains to the middle Mississippi Valley on Friday into Saturday. The vast majority of the region is expected to be free of precipitation these days.

A fast-moving and weak storm system will slice into the swath of rebounding temperatures later this weekend and is likely to bring more substantial precipitation to some areas.
The storm will bring a zone of wet snow from parts of North Dakota, northern Minnesota and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with mostly rain farther south later on Sunday.

Ahead of the storm, winds from the south and southwest will kick up and can gust past 30 mph from the northern Plains to the Great Lakes. While the winds will help to bring in the warmer air, they will also make it feel chillier than the actual temperature.
Meanwhile, the combination of rain and melting snow early in the month and more recent rain will continue to cause minor to moderate flooding in unprotected areas along the lower Ohio and lower Mississippi rivers. In many areas in this swath, it will take a few weeks until waters recede below flood stage.

I am confused, you say how my area (cleveland, OH) will rapidly warm up over the weekend yet in the forecast saturday is over 20F below average and both Sunday and Monday about 10F below average, which is extreme cold for all 3 days

So will the Midwest escape the brunt of the cold weather out East? Living in the Omaha metro area, it would be nice to see this spring be warmer than last spring or the spring of 2013.
