Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,February 21,2015

An area of low pressure will impact the eastern half of the country on Saturday, while a ridge of high pressure will persist over the West Coast.

A vigorous low pressure system will move east northeastward over the middle Mississippi Valley, the Ohio Valley and the Northeast. This system will draw moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, generating a mixture of rain, freezing rain and sleet across the middle Mississippi Valley, the Tennessee Valley and the interior Mid-Atlantic. Ice storm warnings are already in place for a large span of central Tennessee. Heavy precipitation could lead to flash flooding over northeast Arkansas, northern Mississippi, northern Alabama, western Tennessee, western Kentucky and southeast Missouri. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to fire up over portions of the central Gulf Coast and the lower Mississippi Valley. In addition, moderate to heavy snow showers will impact the Ohio Valley, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England on Saturday.

Meanwhile, a cold front will sink southward over the Intermountain West and the northern Plains. Upslope flow along the eastern edge of the Rockies will generate snow showers across the mountain range. Heavy snow showers will be possible over the central Rockies and the central high Plains. By the late evening, light snow will spread westward over the Wasatch. A ridge of high pressure will keep the majority of the West Coast clear of precipitation. Temperatures are forecast to range between the 70s and 80s across the Desert Southwest.
