Potentially Damaging Winds Target Northern Europe

Northern Europe, while seeing several minor storm systems over the past week or two, was free of significant wind storms. This however, is expected to change on Sunday as a strong area of low pressure and accompanying cold front race across the region.
This cold front will first impact Ireland early to midday on Sunday, bringing with it a wind-blown rain. As this front marches east, rain and wind will accompany it eastward across Wales, England and Scotland.
Wind gusts are expected to surpass 65 kph (40 mph) across most of these areas with isolated areas gusting to 80 kph (50 mph). Wind will be strong enough to bring down tree branches and might also cause isolated power outages. Residents should make sure outdoor furniture and decorations are secure, or bring them inside.
Along the northern coast of Ireland, western Scotland and northwestern England wind gusts will be upwards of 100 kph (60 mph).

Not only could wind cause a few power outages, travel will likely be hampered as well. Air travel could see delays and high profile vehicles on roadways will have to use extra caution.
Wind will not lessen very much on Monday across the British Isles as the strong low pressure system spins just to the north of Scotland. Blustery showers will affect Scotland, Wales and western England, as well as Ireland. Wind gusts continue to exceed 100 kph (60 mph) in western Ireland and Scotland. Across Wales and England wind gusts will remain in the 65-80 mph (40-50 mph) range.

The United Kingdom will not be the only area that sees strong winds. By Sunday night, the aforementioned cold front will advance into Scandinavia, Germany and France.
While damaging wind gusts are not expected across central France and Germany, Monday will be a blustery day with showers. Rather, strong wind gusts will be reserved for southern Scandinavia and coastal areas from Germany to France. These areas will see wind gusts to 80 kph (50 mph).
Due to the slow movement of the low across the northern North Sea, a large portion of western Europe will see unsettled and blistery conditions into Tuesday. Another strong cold front will impact the United Kingdom during the second half of the week.
