A strong low pressure system will impact the Northeast on Tuesday, while a weaker area of low pressure will move over the Great Basin.
A powerful low pressure system will streak across the northeastern corner of the country. This system is expected to bring major impacts to the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England in the form of strong winds and heavy snow showers. Blizzard warnings are in place from the coast of New Jersey to the coast of Maine. Hurricane force wind warnings have also been issued from the coast of Connecticut to the southern coast of Maine. Over two feet of snow will be possible across portions of the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. Snow accumulations will range between one to two feet across the interior Mid-Atlantic and interior New England. Blowing snow will create hazardous road conditions for a handful of states. High pressure over the Gulf of Mexico will keep weather conditions quiet across the Gulf Coast and the Deep South.
Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure will bring temperatures 20 to 30 degrees above normal over the central third of the country. Several states across the central Plains could experience highs in the 70s.
Out west, a weak area of low pressure will usher light to moderate rain over the Southwest, the Great Basin and the Desert Southwest. Snow levels will drop to roughly 8,000 feet across the Sierra Nevada, the Wasatch and the Rockies on Tuesday. Additionally, an onshore flow will usher light rain over parts of Washington and northwest Oregon.
