A stationary front will linger over the Pacific Northwest, the upper Intermountain West and the northern Plains on Friday. During the morning, moderate to heavy precipitation will develop across northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Light to moderate snow showers will be possible across the higher elevations of the Cascades and the northern Rockies. During the afternoon and evening, snow showers will become more widespread over the northern Rockies, while wet weather will persist over the West Coast. In addition, a cluster of snow showers will shift east southeastward over the northern Plains and the upper Midwest. Late evening snow showers could move as far east as the Ohio Valley and western Pennsylvania. Bitter cold arctic air will spread over the upper Intermountain West, the northern Plains, the upper Midwest and the Northeast.
Meanwhile, high pressure will settle in over the Southeast, keeping conditions clear across the Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast, the Deep South and the southern Plains.
A separate ridge of high pressure will build over the eastern Pacific. Warm, dry weather will persist across the Southwest on Friday.
