A major winter storm brought accumulating snowfall to much of Romania and Bulgaria late last week causing widespread travel problems.
Snowfall totaled a foot or more in parts of northern Bulgaria as well as southern and eastern Romania.
While many across the region are still digging out from the storm, another is already on the horizon.

The next storm is already producing snowfall across the higher elevations from Slovenia southward into northern Greece.
This storm will strengthen as it passes over Greece Tuesday night spreading snow from the higher terrain of northern Greece into Bulgaria.
Some additional snow will fall through Tuesday night across western parts of the Balkan Peninsula.
However, the heaviest snow will develop across central and eastern Bulgaria overnight before spreading northward through northeastern Bulgaria and eastern Romania on Wednesday.
These areas can expect a general 8-15 cm (3-6 inches); however, some areas from northern Bulgaria into southern Romania, including Bucharest can get as much as 30 cm (12 inches) of new snow.

Areas near coast of the Black Sea, such as Varna, will start as rain or a mix of rain and snow Tuesday night into early Wednesday before changing to snow and accumulating a quick 2-5 cm (an inch or two).
Snow will come to an end from south to north across Bulgaria and eastern Romania Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night.
The storm will then interact with a frontal boundary leading to snow across southern Ukraine on Thursday.
