National Weather Summary for August 27,2013 from weatherunderground.com

Weather Underground midday recap for Tuesday,August 27,2013.

Wet weather with threats of flooding continued across parts of the Desert Southwest into the Central Great Basin on Tuesday, while hot weather and chances of severe weather persisted in the Midwest.

In the West, frequent scattered showers with embedded thunderstorms and chances of locally heavy rainfall continued from parts of inland southern California and Arizona into the Central Great Basin. Rain totals were expected to range between 1 and 2 inches with locally higher amounts. Flood and flash flood warnings and watches remained in effect for the region through the evening as today's rainfall on already saturated ground created increased flood and flash flood potential. Burn areas from recent fires were also especially prone to flash flooding and debris flow.

In the Central U.S., late-season heat continued in the Northern and Central Plains into the Midwest as a ridge of high pressure dominates over the Central U.S. Heat advisories remained in effect from areas of South Dakota and Nebraska eastward into Wisconsin and Illinois as daytime highs climb well into the 90s to near the 100 degree mark and heat indices range from about 100-105 degrees with locally higher values. Meanwhile, strong heating helped fuel thunderstorms in the Midwest and parts of the Northeast through the afternoon and evening. Areas of the upper Great Lakes into the upper Ohio Valley were at slight risk of severe thunderstorms development with locally damaging wind gusts and hail.

Elsewhere, showers and thunderstorms continued in parts of southern/central Texas and areas of Florida.
