Severe Storm Recap from Easter Sunday

Easter Sunday brought the month of March to a close with severe storms across the Deep South and Texas.
Severe thunderstorms with a history of producing hail and damaging winds continued to race southeastward across the central Gulf Coast in addition to southeastern and central Texas well into the evening.

In addition to hail and damaging winds, the strongest thunderstorms on Sunday produced blinding downpours and lightning.

Warm and moist air from the Gulf of Mexico is one of the key ingredients to the severe weather.

This image captures the severe weather reports through late Sunday evening. A squall line of severe thunderstorms late Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon were responsible for numerous wind damage and hail reports across northeast Texas and Louisiana.

8:20 p.m. CDT: A thunderstorm that passed through south Texas, west of Corpus Christi, reported hail as large as baseballs across both Duval and Jim Wells Counties
6:15 p.m. CDT: Nickle to dime size hail was reported in Monroe County in Alabama.
5:59 p.m. CDT: Quarter to golf ball-sized hail for 10 minutes in Terrell Hills, Texas
4:44 p.m. CDT: Quarter-sized hail completely covering the ground in Collirene, Ala.
3:31 p.m. CDT: A thunderstorm dropped nickel-sized hail on Westminster, La.
3:12 p.m. CDT: Half dollar-sized hail slammed an area near Panorama Village, Texas, which is located north of Houston.
2:35 p.m. CDT: Strong thunderstorm winds downed a tree onto a road in Wakefield, La.
1:40 p.m. CDT: Quarter-sized hail pounded motorists on I-10 near Roosevelt, Texas.
1:35 p.m. CDT: A violent thunderstorm downed trees and power lines in St. Joseph, La.
1:13 p.m. CDT: Strong thunderstorm winds downed trees and large signs in Alexandria, La., and ripped the roof off a building located across from the police station. A wind gust of 48 mph was recorded at the city's airport.
1:01 p.m. CDT: Several roads throughout Louisiana's Grant Parish are blocked by trees that were downed by strong thunderstorm winds.
12:55 p.m. CDT: Quarter-sized hail slammed Montgomery, La.
12:15 p.m. CDT: Strong thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines in Natchitoches, La.
11:15 a.m. CDT: A violent thunderstorm downed trees near Gibsland, La. One of the trees landed on Interstate 20.
10:39 a.m. CDT: Thunderstorm winds gusted to 70 mph in Shreveport, La.
10:00 a.m. CDT: Strong thunderstorm winds downed a large tree in Athens, Texas. The tree damaged the roof of a neighboring home and caused major damage to two cars in the driveway.
8:37 a.m. CDT: A gusty thunderstorm stripped the roofs from buildings near Simms, Texas.
7:09 a.m. CDT: Quarter-sized hail busted out a bedroom window near Valley View, Texas.
